It's official!!

I've officially registered for the timberman sprint distance triathlon!!

http://www.timbermantri.com/timbershort.html

I'm a little worried about the biking but am confident with the swimming and think if I make it through the swim and bike I'll be numb enough to finish the short 5k run! I've already started training on the bike (ouch my buttocks!) and have been swimming as well. 22 lengths of the YMCA pool is 1/3 mile which is the swim distance so I'm sure it'll be easy as I already can do that with little trouble. I've always been a fish (picean too!). I'm gonna buy a fancy pair of sneakers for the running part of my training but gonna do that a little down the line... maybe a few credit card statements from now. I'm gonna get personally fit from a shoe guy at the local running store runner's alley so that I don't do damage to my already messed up limbs. I am also debating on getting a wetsuit as the water is from 70-77 degrees which I didn't think was too cold until I went swimming today at the YMCA and she told me the chilly water was a balmy 82 degrees!! YIKES!! usually it's around 88 but the heater was broken. I'll freeze my butt off in 70 degree water!!! oh well. I've gotta find some bike shorts too to save my buttocks!!

I'm planning on camping out there for the few days of the timberfest likely friday night and saturday night. sunday is the olympic distance race and some more of the festivities so I'll look into that.

TRIATHLETE??? ME??????

Current mood: energetic

OK well here's the deal... I'm reading this amazing book that is super motivating called "Slow Fat Triathlete" I've been somewhat intrigued by the running world lately and have done my first "training" with the couch to 5K program in hopes to run a 5K sometime this coming summer. Seeing as I've never run unless someone has been chasing me since I was forced to run a mile in elementary school I'm a LITTLE rusty with it but the program seems reasonably easy and I have been working out with a new personal trainer and since I have a little bit of a new body and smaller up top to worry about I think I can swing training for a 5k without killing myself. BUT I just started reading this book and I'm a little interested.... this woman in the book started running at the age of 40 and she was VERY overweight and worked a cubicle job... I'm way more active than that! In just a few years she was running half triathlons!! I had no idea there were multiple versions but there are some that are a 400m swim, a 6.2 mile bike and a 3.1 mile run..... that seems achieveable so long as I'm not going for speed or time I think I can pull that off so here's my first thought of it... ask me about it... keep me motivated. I'd really like to say I do a sprint (short) triathlon within the next 2 years. 3 years max. I'll log my progress here so those of you that are intersted will be able to see my ?progress? and foibles with a WETSUIT???? ok well that's the thought. wish me luck!!!

FINALLY!!

I figured out how to get back on this thing! it's only taken me FOREVER!! well usually I blog on myspace now but for April's benefit I'm now going to try and get on here now and then. I still blog more often on myspace so if you want to find me you have to look for me there. Just go to myspace.com/newgayda and add a profile and ask to be my friend to see it. I think April already has an account there.

As a carrot... I have a posting about my possibly becoming a TRIATHLETE??????
